Your diploma

The University of Minnesota includes the following information on diplomas:

  • Your name
  • The degree you earned
  • The confer date
  • Honors earned (if applicable)

Your diploma does not indicate your major or minor. These details are recorded on your official transcript. The diploma is printed on 8.5x11” paper.

Diploma name

Your legal name will print on your diploma, but you may set a different name to appear if you wish. You can set your preferred name in MyU: My Info (see step-by-step instructions).

Diploma address

It is up to you to make sure your diploma is mailed to the correct address. Your diploma will be mailed to the diploma address that appears in MyU: My Info. If that address is not entered (see step-by-step instructions), your diploma will be mailed to your home address.

Mailing timeline

If you are an undergraduate, your diploma will be mailed 6-8 weeks after you are cleared for graduation by your college office. If you are a grad student, your diploma will be mailed 4-6 weeks after you are cleared for graduation. If you are an international student, either undergrad or grad, allow 8-12 weeks for your diploma to be mailed after graduation clearance.

The University mails all diplomas via the United States Postal Services (USPS). If you wish to have your diploma mailed via FedEx, complete a FedEx Diploma Delivery Request. The deadline to submit the form is on the 15th day of the month following your graduation date (e.g., if you graduate in May, this form must be received by June 15).

Request a duplicate diploma

If needed, you can order a duplicate of your diploma for $15.00. Complete a Request for Duplicate Diploma and follow the instructions on the form. You may request a duplicate diploma only after receiving your initial diploma. Your duplicate diploma will be mailed to you three weeks after you submit the request.
